Henry's 4 goals boost UMBC over VMI, 16-7

April 14, 1996|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Senior attackman Chad Henry continued his torrid scoring, netting four goals and adding two assists as UMBC shook off stubborn VMI for a 16-7 victory last night.

The Retrievers (3-5) scored the game's first three goals, with junior midfielder Matt Shearer getting the first two and Henry the third. But VMI (5-5) rallied to tie the score at 3 and then at 4, the latter on Joe Brockman's goal 4: 12 into the second quarter.

But UMBC outscored the Keydets 5-1 to lead 9-5 at halftime, and scored the first three goals of the third period to open a 12-5 advantage. Freshman attackman Chris Turner scored his three goals during that rally.

Henry, who was tied for 18th in the nation in goals per game, now has 16 in his past three contests.
