Discovering Jeffersonian history

Get your hands into the real dirt at Jefferson's retreat home in Bedford County, Va., at the Eighth Annual Summer Field School in Historical Archaeology.

Offered by Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest and the University of Virginia, the field school enables adults to experience the excitement of discovering Jeffersonian history at his villa. The program, designed to teach fieldwork in historical archaeology, will be offered June 17 through July 13, with an optional fifth week.

The cost is $295, and student housing is available at area colleges. Application deadline is April 28. Call (804) 525-1806.
