Red Wings seek record 61st victory tonight

April 12, 1996|By Knight-Ridder News Service

The Detroit Red Wings stand tied with the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens at 60 wins apiece and can surpass the mark tonight against Chicago at Joe Louis Arena.

"The fact is, whether you win 60 or 57 or 58, it's still a big accomplishment because the next team in the league now is Pittsburgh and they've won 48," Detroit coach Scotty Bowman said.
