International Motorsports Hall of Fame: Announced following inductees: Johnny Rutherford, three-time Indianapolis 500 winner; John Surtees, an Englishman won world titles on motorcycles and in autos; Richie Evans, who won more than 400 features races, including 31 NASCAR events in 1983; Bobby Isaac, who set a world closed-course record of 201.104 mph in 1970; Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, who formed a business that designed the 38-250 Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and the Tiger Tank of World War II; and Donald Healey, a British driver, automobile designer and speed-record holder.

Mariners: Optioned OF Darren Bragg to Triple-A Tacoma. Recalled P Rafael Carmona from Tacoma.

Marlins: Purchased contract of P Joel Adamson from Triple-A Charlotte. Optioned contract of P Yorkis Perez to Charlotte.

Padres: Optioned OF Todd Steverson to Triple-A Las Vegas. Recalled P Tim Worrell from Las Vegas.

Rockies: Sent 2B Eric Young to Single-A Salem on rehabilitation assignment.

College

Black Issues in Higher Education: Named Bowie State cross country runner Kevin Jones an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholar for commitment to athletics, academics and community service.

Appalachian State: Named Buzz Peterson men's basketball coach; he had been an associate head coach at Vanderbilt.

L Geneva: Promoted Jeff Santarsiero to men's basketball coach.

Iowa State: F Joe Modderman is transferring to Grand Valley State.

Michigan: Announced that swimmer Tom Dolan, who has won three NCAA titles, will not return for his senior season.

Stetson: Freshman G Brian Utley will leave basketball program at end of spring semester due to personal reasons.

Washington: Women's basketball coach Chris Gobrecht resigned.

Wisconsin: Freshman basketball G Jeremy Hall will transfer.

Football

Broncos: Re-signed OL Reggie McElroy.

Rams: Signed QB Steve Walsh.

Seahawks: Agreed to three-year contract with WR Brian Blades, who is charged with manslaughter in fatal shooting of a cousin.

Vikings: Sent RB Bobby Phillips on loan to World League Frankfurt and WR Lee Gissendaner to World League Scottish.

Hockey

Flames: Recalled C Claude Lapointe from AHL Saint John.
