Man found on church pew charged with breaking in

April 11, 1996

Police arrested an Arnold man Tuesday on charges of breaking into College Parkway Baptist Church, where he fell asleep on a pew, county police said.

Henry Alton Shenton Jr., 38, of the 1200 block of Summerwood Court was charged with breaking and entering and destruction of property.

Members of the church cleaning crew found a man in the building shortly after midnight and called police. Officers arrested the man, who told them he had a key to the building because he made coffee for the Monday night Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Police did not find a key, and group members told police they did not see the man at their Monday meeting, which ended about 8: 30 p.m.
