Haynes gets Sunday start as rotation pushed back

April 10, 1996|By Peter Schmuck

Both the Orioles and Cleveland Indians will keep their starting rotations unchanged for the two-game series here, but yesterday's rainout will alter Davey Johnson's pitching plans for the weekend.

He will pitch rookie Jimmy Haynes on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins to keep David Wells and Scott Erickson on four days' rest.

Pitching coach Pat Dobson worked extensively with Haynes yesterday to correct mechanical flaws in the delivery of the rookie, who yielded seven runs in four-plus innings to the Twins in his first start Saturday. "He was 100 percent better today," Dobson said.
