An elderly man was pistol-whipped and robbed of his wallet Monday night outside an Ellicott City motel, Howard County police said.

About 9: 30 p.m., Charles Spenner, 79, of Long Beach, N.Y., was getting out of his car at Brown's Motel in the 8000 block of U.S. 40 when two men approached him from behind and demanded his wallet, police said.

One of the men drew a handgun and used it to strike Mr. Spenner in the face before taking his wallet. The two robbers then fled on foot, police said.

Mr. Spenner's face was bruised, but he refused medical treatment, police said.

He was unable to give police a detailed description of the men.
