An 18-year-old Annapolis man was indicted on first-degree murder charges yesterday by an Anne Arundel County grand jury in the stabbing death of a Florida woman.

Tremaine Deon Howard of the 7400 block of Edgewood Road -- who was being held at the county detention center on unrelated armed robbery charges after a Dec. 31 arrest -- was identified as a suspect in the homicide and later interviewed by detectives, police said.

He is the second man to be charged in the death of Katherine Elizabeth Brodie, of Miami Beach, who was visiting her boyfriend when she was killed. Mickeen Michael Holland, 19, who has no fixed address, turned himself in to state police in Annapolis on Feb. 28 after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Ms. Brodie's body was found face down in tall reeds near commercial buildings in the 7400 block of Edgewood Road on Feb. 12, police said. She had been reported missing Dec. 22 by her boyfriend.

City police declined to reveal the motive behind the slaying and said more arrests are possible.
