April 08, 1996

A pedestrian was killed late Saturday when a car hit him as he walked on Route 32 near Old Frederick Road in West Friendship, county police said.

Joseph Kramer, 49, of no fixed address was walking in the southbound lane of Route 32 just south of Old Frederick Road at 10: 10 p.m. when he was struck by a car driven by Mark Novitski, 40, of Dayton, Ohio, police said.

Mr. Kramer, whose closest relatives live in New Jersey, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Novitski was in fair condition yesterday at Howard County General Hospital.

Police said a preliminary report cited pedestrian error as the cause of the accident.
