Cornell pulls away from UMBC, 15-9

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell scored the last six goals and held UMBC scoreless for the final 10 1/2 minutes as the Big Red downed the Retrievers, 15-9, yesterday.

Pat Dutton, Mark MacLachlan and John Sullivan each scored three goals for Cornell.

UMBC (2-5), which has lost seven straight road games over two seasons, led the entire first half, pulling ahead 5-2 on an extra-man goal by Casey Hard 1 1/2 minutes into the second quarter.

But the Big Red went on a 6-1 run to forge an 8-6 lead midway through the third quarter.

The Retrievers tied the game at 9 early in the fourth quarter, but did not score again.
