LIKE SPRING FLOWERS, flea markets are beginning to blossom as our neighbors clean their attics, basements and garages of stuff that seemed like a good idea at the time of purchase.

The North County High School PTSA will sponsor its annual spring flea market from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the school, 10 E. First Ave. in Ferndale.

Early birds will be admitted at 8: 30 a.m. for a $2 donation. Come browse through the bargains and help support the PTSA scholarship fund.

St. John turns 80

To kick off its 80th anniversary celebration, St. John Lutheran Church is inviting the public to an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

This event will include a five- to 10-minute guided tour of the sanctuary (to enjoy the beauty of the lily-covered cross) and a visit to some of the day-school classes. The tour will begin at the Third Street entrance.

Light refreshments will be served.

The official anniversary celebration will be June 16. The day will consist of a service at 10 a.m. followed by a catered brunch of fried chicken, meatballs, roasted potatoes, salads, cake and soft drinks.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger, and will be sold April 14 to June 9. Only 200 tickets will be sold.

Information or reservations: 355-7295.
