Blue Jays: Sent C Randy Knorr outright to Triple-A Syracuse.

Orioles: Acquired P Esteban Yan from Expos for cash.

Padres: Added P Cade Gaspar to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga roster. Placed IF Eduardo Cuevas on Rancho Cucamonga's DL.

Red Sox: Optioned C Alex Delgado to Double-A Trenton. Purchased contract of OF Kevin Mitchell.

Yankees: Purchased contract of P Jeff Letourneau from unaffiliated Albany.


Bulls: Placed F-C John Salley on injured list with strained groin muscle. Activated C James Edwards off injured list.

Rockets: Activated G Clyde Drexler and G Mario Elie from injured list. Placed G Melvin Booker and G Tracy Moore on injured list.


Brown: Named Don Brown defensive coordinator.

Illinois: Named Robert McCullum men's assistant basketball -Z coach.

Illinois-Chicago: Named Dick Nagy men's assistant basketball coach.

Nebraska: Announced that freshman men's basketball C Leif Nelson will leave team.

Oklahoma: Extended contract of men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson (40-22 in two seasons with Sooners, 216-170 overall) through 2004, ending speculation that he would return to his home state to coach North Carolina State.


Eagles: Jeffrey Auerbach, VP of business development and broadcasting, resigned.

Patriots: Signed unrestricted free-agent CB Mike McGruder, who had been with Buccaneers.


Bruins: Sent LW Cam Stewart to AHL Providence.

Flyers: Recalled D Aris Brimanis from AHL Hershey.

Kings: Gave GM Sam McMaster two-year extension.

Mighty Ducks: Signed RW Igor Nikulin to one-year contract.

Rangers: Recalled D Barry Richter from AHL Binghamton.

Whalers: Signed C Byron Ritchie to multi-year contract and assigned him to AHL Springfield. Assigned C Brian Secord, who had been playing with OHL Sault St. Marie, to Springfield.
