REGISTRATION HAS BEGUN for the Miss Fire Prevention competition, to be held June 1 at the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company, 15 Central Ave.

The contest promotes fire safety and prevention through education and preparation. Contestants are judged on poise, personality and knowledge of fire prevention.

There are three age categories: 9-12 for Little Miss Fire Prevention; 13-15 for Junior Miss Fire Prevention; and 16-24 for Miss Fire Prevention.

Winners in each category visit area schools, nursing homes and community groups to offer suggestions on fire prevention and represent Glen Burnie in the countywide Miss Fire Prevention pageant in August.

Entrants are required to attend three two-hour classes in May on fire safety.

Applied Technology North will offer high school students and their families a glimpse at the skills needed for careers in the 21st century.

Staff members and students will offer demonstrations and examples of the training provided by CATN.

Visitors can get information on engineering, construction, health care and computer technology, and enjoy dinner provided by culinary arts students at the "Home Style Cafe." The center is at 800 Stevenson Road in Severn.
