Postal Service food drive reaches goal for 1996

The U.S. Postal Service food drive in Maryland reached its 1996 goal, as letter carriers collected 206,324 pounds, according to Bill Ewing, executive director of the Maryland Food Bank.

The postal workers' drive to benefit the food bank was extended to two weeks from one week to increase the volume of food.

Donations still were coming in yesterday in the biggest event of the bank's Harvest for the Hungry program to raise food.
