Officer resigns amid charges of card theft

April 02, 1996

A police officer arrested last week on charges that he stole $27 worth of baseball cards from a Glen Burnie department store has resigned, county police said yesterday.

David J. Heline, an 11-year veteran, submitted his letter of resignation to Chief Robert A. Beck the same day he was arrested on theft charges.

Police charged Mr. Heline with concealing 10 packs of baseball cards under his police sweater and trying to walk out of the Glen Burnie Wal-Mart early Wednesday while he was on duty and in uniform.

A lieutenant from the Eastern District arrested him.
