Fulton post office robbed -- third in a recent string

The post office in Fulton was robbed Friday afternoon about 1 p.m. by a man who escaped with an undetermined amount of money, Howard County police said.

The man entered the post office in the 11800 block of Scaggsville Road, implied that he had a gun and demanded money. He took the cash and ran, Howard County police Sgt. Steven Keller said.

The suspect was described as a black male with medium build and complexion, 6 feet tall, 30 to 40 years old, a thick black mustache and several days of beard growth, wearing a dark baseball cap and tan jacket, Sergeant Keller said.

The holdup was at least the third robbery of a post office in the Baltimore-Washington corridor in the past few weeks, Sergeant Keller said. On March 16, a gunman robbed the post office in Annapolis Junction, and a robbery occurred in Anne Arundel County earlier in the month.

Police and federal postal inspectors are investigating Friday's robbery and are not sure if it is related to the others, Sergeant Keller said. The description of the suspect in Friday's robbery was similar -- but not identical -- to the description of the suspect in the Annapolis Junction robbery.

Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect in Friday's robbery. The Metro Crime Stoppers hot line is 276-8888.
