A man who opened his coat to show the clerk the barrel of a gun robbed a High's store in Glen Burnie on Monday, county police said yesterday.

The clerk reported that a man entered the store in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway about 5: 45 p.m., shopped for about five minutes, then stepped up to the counter and opened his coat to display what appeared to be a gun, police said.

The man reached over the counter, grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the clerk's hand and five packs of cigarettes from a counter and ran from the store.

The clerk chased him to the Chesapeake Square shopping center, where he saw the man get into a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier that sped north on Ritchie Highway, police said.
