Senior center moves office to YWCA during renovation

The Arnold Senior Center on Church Road moved its offices yesterday into the YWCA building at 1517 Ritchie Highway while the center undergoes a $100,000 renovation and expansion.

The center will stay at the YWCA building for six to nine months until the expansion is complete, said Sharon Poet, director of the center.

The construction includes adding a 1,500-square-foot room that will double as a lounge and a classroom on the rear of the center.

The room will be furnished with comfortable sofas and large windows to add a sociable environment to the center, Ms. Poet said.

"As it is now, if you want to socialize, you have little room to do it in," she said. "Now, you can talk, sit down, grab a cup of coffee, [or] start a game of cards."

Renovations include removing some interior walls to add storage space, Ms. Poet said.

No on-site parking is at the YWCA building, she said, so the center has hired a van to pick up members every 15 minutes at Arnold Park on Jones Station Road.
