Man charged in shooting of next-door neighbor

March 18, 1996

A 48-year-old Edgewater man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of his next-door neighbor, police said.

Roger A. Nicholas was arrested Saturday night and charged in the shooting of Allan Richard Carper, 41. Police said an argument turned into a physical fight between the two men, both of whom live in the 300 block of Highland Drive.

Mr. Nicholas went to his house, got a gun and confronted Mr. Carper in a yard between the two houses, police said. Mr. Carper, who was shot once in the abdomen, was taken to Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, where he was reported in stable condition yesterday.
