HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Michael Watson scored a career-best seven goals, including the game-winner 49 seconds into overtime, as top-ranked Virginia escaped with a 16-15 victory over No. 6 Brown before 300 at Hofstra Stadium yesterday.

Watson pulled out the game for the Cavaliers when he powered in five-yard shot on a feed from Tim Whiteley.

Virginia (3-0), which has defeated three teams in the nation's top six, held a 14-9 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Bears (2-1) stormed back with five straight goals to tie the game with 1: 19 left.

Watson put the Cavaliers back ahead, 15-14, just 50 seconds later. Alex Goodman then sent the game into overtime, scoring on a dodge to the goal with eight seconds left.

In overtime, Brown won the faceoff but lost the ball at midfield. Virginia's David Wren picked up the ground ball and passed it to Whiteley, who fed Watson for the winner.
