American Legion benefit dance planned on St. Patrick's Day

JOIN THE FOLKS at the Howard L. Turner American Legion Post 276 for a St. Patrick's Day Dance at the post home on Quarterfield Road.

Entertainment will be provided by the band Reason. The cost is $16 per person, which includes corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, wing dings and an open bar. Dinner will be served at 8 p.m. Saturday, with dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Spaghetti dinner

The Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the church hall on Route 175 in Odenton.

Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, a salad bar, cake, coffee, tea and punch are on the menu. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 eat free. Information: (410) 674-6145 or (410) 674-2272.

Poets in training

Enrichment students at Arundel Middle School are putting together an anthology of poetry they wrote in January workshops and hope to publish the anthology in May, said teacher Don Counts.

Donald Richardson, Arundel's artist in residence and a member of the English faculty at Anne Arundel Community College, led 25 students in five workshops to help them refine and expand their talents as poets. The sixth-graders who were in the workshops are Steven Allen, Arrika Butler, Katherine Cardwell, Susan Cardwell, Jessica Gouff, Jodi Hicks, Lora Shukert, Jessica Upchurch, April Watts and Lindsey Yates.

Seventh-graders are Secrett Conway, Tina Davis, Lisa Lighfoot, Asia Otts, April Shrewsbury, Aaron Surgeon and Josie Zohny. Eighth graders include Cassie Baker, Theresa Buchanan, Megan Centineo, Angie Gupta, Ashley Hesgard, Shannon Massabni, Jessica Morgan and Tracy Timberlake.

Business networking

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a business connection from 5: 30 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. tomorrow at Arundel Crossing West, 1360 Blair Drive, Suite L in Odenton. Tickets are $8 for chamber members, $10 for nonmembers. Information: 410) 672-3422.
