Home Buyer's Expo at Camden Yards

A free real estate consumer trade show will be held Saturday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, featuring more than 20 seminars on a variety of home-buying subjects. The Home Buyer's Expo will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is sponsored by The Sun in association with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Seminars will deal with how to cope with credit issues, closing costs, preparing your current home for sale, new-home financing, buyer brokerage, tax advantages of homeownership and home inspections. Also, working with architects, auctions, how to buy a HUD home, homeownership counseling programs, remodeling, association fees, custom design, the role of the Realtor, types of loans and related subjects.

Representatives of HUD, Fannie Mae and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development will be present to discuss their homeownership programs, including options for first-time buyers.

There will be nearly 40 exhibitors, including mortgage companies, real estate firms and home builders.

Homebuilding permits up 5.5% in 4th quarter

Building permits for residential construction in the Baltimore region were up 5.5 percent in the last three months of 1995, compared with the fourth quarter of 1994, according to the publication U.S. Housing Markets.

This was a turnaround from most of 1995. For the year, permits for single-family homes and apartments declined 10.5 percent from 1994.
