March 08, 1996

Details have been completed for the Pimlico Race Course spring meeting, which is highlighted by the Preakness Stakes.

Beginning April 2, live racing will be conducted on Tuesday and on Thursday through Sunday with a 1 p.m. post time. Mondays will be dark days, and only simulcast wagering will be available on Wednesdays. The exceptions will be May 15 and May 27, when live racing will be conducted.

Pimlico will be dark on Easter (April 7), May 14 and May 28.

Ten races are programmed for weekdays and Sundays, with 11 carded on April Saturdays and 12 on May Saturdays, except for Preakness Day (11).

Early wagering will be accepted the previous day for the Kentucky Oaks (May 3) and Kentucky Derby (May 4) from Churchill Downs.

The Pimlico meeting ends June 9.

Post parades were shortened yesterday as Laurel Park squeezed in a nine-race card in 3 1/2 hours in anticipation of inclement weather. My Christine rallied from last to win the $20,500 allowance feature under Alberto Delgado. -- Kent Baker
