March 08, 1996

A Baltimore man was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempting to rob an employee at High's convenience store in Brooklyn Park, county police said.

Myron McLaughlin, 34, of the 4200 block of Thayer Court was charged with attempted armed robbery and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

He was being held at the county jail without bond.

Josephine M. McBride, 58, told police she was doing paperwork in the back room of the store in the 700 block of Church St. shortly before 3: 30 p.m., when a man armed with a knife approached and demanded money.

The man shut the door, began looking through Ms. McBride's purse and again demanded money, police said. When he did not find any, he ran away, police said.

Police found a man fitting the suspect's description minutes later and took him to the store, where Ms. McBride identified him, police said.

An officer found a knife in the man's coat, police said.
