March 07, 1996

An Elkridge man was arrested Tuesday and charged with holding a woman at gunpoint on a Laurel hotel parking lot, county police said.

Craig B. Viente, 37, of the 6200 block of Washington Road was charged with assault, battery, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a weapon in a vehicle.

A caller to police shortly before 9 p.m. told them that a man with a gun was parked in a Corvette at the Holiday Inn in the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road. The man was cursing and pointing the gun at a woman, who police later determined was a stranger to him, police said.

The man struggled during his arrest, police said. Officers found a spray can of Mace and a .40 caliber Glock semiautomatic handgun in the car.
