Have you kissed a kiwi today?

Everyone could use a little taste of summer about now: how about kiwi from California? They're perfect for salads, dessert sauces, kids' lunches. For kiwi information, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: California Kiwifruit Commission, 1540 River Park Drive, Suite 110, Sacramento, Calif. 95815.

Four chefs from the TV Food Network -- Curtis Aikens, Caprial Pence, Marcia Adams and Nathalie Dupree -- are rolling into town for a day of cooking demonstrations book signings and photos with fans. The "Great Chefs of TV Festival" runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 10 at the Omni Inner Harbor Hotel. Tickets, $35, are available at Ticketmaster and at the catering office of the Omni, 101 W. Fayette St. Call (410) 752-1100.

Magnificently meatless

Vegetarian food has to be brown-rice boring? Not if it's from "Vegetarian," by San Francisco chef Joanne Weir, the latest in the Williams-Sonoma cookbook series. Among the temptations are ricotta and spinach dumplings with pesto and leek and goat

cheese tart.
