A Can-do Company

Who could coordinate the delivery of a bottle of Dom Perignon from Baltimore to a lord in Britain, locate a new pair of navy pumps before stores open (for a busy executive) and find a Santa Claus in 15 minutes to replace one who didn't show at a holiday party? Charm City Concierge says it can and has. Among the more than 100 services the local firm provides are gift buying and wrapping, catering, chauffeuring, and picking up and delivering dry cleaning. Though Charm City usually is hired on contract by major corporations and property managers, the company is now taking individual requests. Cost varies. Call (410) 727-4569 for more information. Insurance Claims Express says it can save you time and money by speeding up the processing of your health-insurance claims. Just as you've been able to get your tax refund more quickly by submitting your return electronically, you can get quick payment of your health-insurance claim (about 14 days) when it's submitted through an electronic clearinghouse. Each 15 minutes of consultation or processing is $15 but the initial consultation is free. Call Insurance Claims Express at (410) 771-4711.

Make a Trade

You don't have to be a Cal Ripken Jr. or a distinguished member of the Maryland General Assembly to be featured on a trading card (yes, you can keep track of our state legislators this way, too.) Homegrown Enterprises, a Severn-based company, is offering cards that feature your 35mm photo on one side and a caption and a description of up to 50 words on the other. The trading cards make great wedding, birth and new-home announcements. To order, send a check or money order for $15 to Homegrown Enterprises, 7935 Innkeeper Drive, Department BSP, Severn, Md. 21144. A prepaid packet good for 16 personalized trading cards will be mailed to you. Return the packet with your photo, description and a shipping and handling fee of $5.95. The trading cards will be sent to you in three to four weeks. Larger quantities and rush orders also are available. Call (410) 551-5019 for more information. There's a new long-distance calling card service on the market. When you buy the Bosnia Peace Mission prepaid calling card, you get 10 minutes of long-distance calls (domestic or international) for $25, and an American soldier stationed in Bosnia gets a free, 30-minute card. The donation is courtesy of Ark International Ltd., the woman-owned Maryland company that created the card. If you buy one, you get to specify the name of the American soldier to whom you want the card to go. To order, call (800) 380-2630.
