Deadline approaches for award nominations

March 29th is the deadline for nominating projects for the second annual Tax Credit Excellence Awards sponsored by the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition in Washington.

Awards of $5,000 each will be made for projects financed with low-income housing tax credit in three categories. They are standard metropolitan statistical areas, rural areas (maximum population 50,000), and "special needs" housing regardless of location.

The prize money is to be used to bring additional services, facilities or amenities into the winning projects to benefit tenants, according to the coalition.

Projects will be judged on location of projects in particularly difficult areas to develop, services provided to tenants, efforts to encourage greater tenant self-sufficiency, unique design features or aesthetics, and extraordinary communitywide support.

Nominations may be made by state housing credit agencies, governmental bodies, national and local nonprofit organizations or project owners.

Applications must be submitted by the close of business March 29 to Ari M. Goldberg, Administrator, Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition, 1255 23rd St. N.W., Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20037. Information or application: (202) 973-7739.
