Loyola's Powell named to All-MAAC 1st team Greyhounds' Abraham voted Rookie of Year

Loyola sophomore guard Mike Powell was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference first team yesterday. Powell, a transfer from Virginia, was second in the conference in scoring with 20 points a game.

Loyola forward Nsilo Abraham was voted MAAC Rookie of the Year. He averaged 8.2 points and had a team-best .484 field-goal percentage.

The North Atlantic Conference placed Towson State senior forward Ralph Blalock on its second team. He averaged 17.2 points and 4.3 rebounds. Drexel senior center Malik Rose was Player of the Year and Drexel's Mike DeRocckis was Rookie of the Year.

Loyola junior forward Lynn Albert was named to the All-MAAC women's first team. Forwards Jennifer Bongard and Mary Ann Kirsch were All-Rookie picks. Bowie State junior guard Brandey Lemmons made the All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association team.

Navy sophomore guard Joanne Groth, who averaged 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds, made the Patriot League first team. Laurie Coffey, the league's leading rebounder, was Rookie of the Year and Vanessa Melofchik joined her on the rookie team.
