New executive director City Life Museums

Baltimore City Life Museums announced the selection of John W. Durel as executive director. Mr. Durel joined the museum in 1986 as assistant director, with responsibility for operations and exhibit development. The Baltimore resident is a native of Louisiana and holds a doctorate in American history from the University of New Hampshire. Sylvan Learning Systems, headquartered in Columbia, appointed Patricia B. Miller vice president of franchise operations. The former Nutri-Systems vice president will direct a national support staff for franchisees.


Gray Kirk/VanSant names Caldwell planning director

Gray Kirk/VanSant Advertising appointed Kate Caldwell senior vice president/director of strategic planning, heading up the agency's newly formed strategic planning division. The Northwestern University graduate joins the Baltimore ad firm from D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles of Chicago, where she held the post of senior vice president/director of strategic services.

Blues appoint Frazier vice president for planning

Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maryland announced the appointment of Renee S. Frazier as vice president for corporate strategic planning. The Owings Mills resident joined the health insurer in 1995 and holds a master's degree from George Washington University. Linowes & Blocher, the Silver Spring-based commercial law firm, has admitted Raymond B. Via Jr. as a partner in the Silver Spring office. A University of Maryland law graduate, he had been a principal with the firm of Kass & Skalet.

Jeff Aleshire named Provident vice president

Provident Bank of Maryland announced that Jeff Aleshire joined the Baltimore-based financial institution as vice president, real estate lending. He will expand and develop the land acquisition, development and construction loan business for the bank. He was formerly a vice president in the residential construction department of Signet Bank.

Robert Mann joins Key Federal Savings Bank

Key Federal Savings Bank named Robert E. Mann commercial business development officer for Anne Arundel County. He will be headquartered at the Jumpers Hole/Pasadena offices. Before joining Key Federal, Mr. Mann was a commercial account manager for Crestar Bank.


N.A. Professional Services appoints Provencher

North Arundel Professional Services named Gail Provencher clinical director for women's health services. A certified women's health care nurse practitioner, she holds a master's degree from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, is active in the American College of Nurse Practitioners and is a qualified flight nurse instructor. MacKenzie/O'Conor, Piper & Flynn named Connie D. Stancill sales associate for the brokerage division of the Lutherville-based commercial real estate services company. A Towson State University graduate, she formerly was marketing director for TCW Realty Advisors.
