Musick, Salisbury cruise to capture championship Scoring is balanced against Marymount, 93-81

SALISBURY -- Casey Musick (Cardinal Gibbons) scored 23 points to lead five players in double figures yesterday as Salisbury State defeated Marymount, 93-81, in the championship game of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Sea Gulls (19-8) earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Salisbury State will be making its fourth trip to the NCAA tournament and its first since in four years. The entire 64-team field will be announced today.

Salisbury State raced out to an early 23-6 advantage over the first five minutes and built its lead to 19 points midway through the first half. Marymount (12-15) rallied to cut the deficit to 47-43 at halftime, but never got closer.

Forward Bill Lancaster added 18 points for Salisbury. Randy Clark scored 14, and collected a team-high 11 rebounds. Craig Blackmon netted 13 points and John DeRichie finished with 10, including three three-pointers.

Guard Bobby Schaul led Marymount with a game-high 25 points before fouling out in the final minute. Matthew Solomon scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

It's the first CAC championship for Salisbury, which is playing in its second year in the league.
