FINA member criticizes lifting Foschi's ban

Harm Beyer, a member of FINA, swimming's international governing body, yesterday criticized U.S. Swimming's decision Friday to reverse a two-year sanction against Jessica Foschi for testing positive for an anabolic steroid.

U.S. Swimming gave Foschi, 15, a two-year probation, which would clear her to compete at the U.S. Olympic trials March 6-12, but that could change depending on FINA's response.

"To be polite, it is a disastrous decision," Beyer said from his home in Germany.
