Part of JFX closes on 2 weekends for repairs

About a four-mile stretch of northbound Interstate 83, the Jones Falls Expressway, will be closed today and next weekend to enable work crews to repair the overpasses at St. Paul and Calvert streets.

The section will close next weekend at 10 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. March 4, according to Vanessa C. Pyatt of the city Department of Public Works.

The JFX section closed this weekend -- from Fayette Street to Cold Spring Lane -- will reopen at 5 a.m. tomorrow.

The closure, which began about 10 p.m. Friday, will also include the on-ramps at Gay Street, Madison Street, Charles Street, North Avenue and 29th Street.

Ms. Pyatt said no more closings are scheduled.

The city has devised these detours:

Traffic in the vicinity of North Avenue, Mount Royal Avenue, 28th Street, 29th Street and Druid Park Lake Drive will travel north on Sisson Street/Keswick Road to 33rd Street; west on 33rd Street to Chestnut Avenue; north on Chestnut Avenue to 36th Street; west on 36th Street to Falls Road; north on Falls Road to Cold Spring Lane; and west to the I-83 interchange.

Traffic in the vicinity of the Fallsway will proceed north on Fallsway to Mount Royal Avenue; west on Mount Royal Avenue to Charles Street; north on Charles Street to University Parkway; west on University Parkway to Cold Spring Lane; and west to the I-83 interchange.
