North County tops Queen Anne's, 64-60 Southern-B advances in regional playoffs

Cornelius Burley scored 21 points and Maurice Bowie added 20 as No. 17 North County (15-8) topped visiting Queen Anne's, 64-60, in a state Class 4A East region first-round playoff game yesterday.

North County travels to Old Mill Tuesday for a quarterfinal game.

* Southern-B 74, Mervo 42: John Hemsley scored 19 to lead host and No. 3 Southern-B (18-3) in a Class 4A North playoff game. Marlon Wise and Dedric Galloway each added 17 for the Bulldogs. Southern will travel to Douglass-B Monday or Tuesday for a region quarterfinal game.

* Lake Clifton 87, Northern 62 -- Michael King and Dante Lemmon scored 18 points each to lead the Lakers (18-2) to a first-round win in Class 4A North. Rodney Bass added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Braswell added 15 points, 10 assists and six rebounds for the Lakers, who will play at Dulaney Monday at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.

* Aberdeen 88, Lansdowne 68: Adam Vesely scored 30 to lead No. 7 Aberdeen (18-2) in a Class 2A North region game. Mark Stevens added 14 points for the Eagles. North East-Cecil will travel to Aberdeen Monday or Tuesday for a quarterfinal game.

* Walbrook 63, Patterson 53: Darnell Dupree and Derek Thompson combined for 24 points and 14 rebounds as the visiting and No. 14 Warriors (12-9) won a first-round Class 4A North region game. Walbrook plays host to Perry Hall Monday or Tuesday.

* Randallstown 80, Eastern Tech 57: Lamont Clark scored 15 and Troy Lewis added 11 as No. 12 Randallstown ran away with a first-round win in the Class 3A North region. Randallstown will play host to Woodlawn Monday or Tuesday in a quarterfinal game.

* Centennial 78, J.M. Bennett 47: Matt Laycock scored 23 points to lead No. 19 Centennial (17-5) in a Class 3A East first-round game. Centennial will play host to Mount Hebron in a quarterfinal game Monday or Tuesday.

* Catonsville 61, Owings Mills 49: Cameron McCarthy scored 14 as host Catonsville (15-5) won in a Class 2A North first-round game. The Comets travel to Overlea Monday at 7 p.m. for a quarterfinal game.

* Poly 77, Stephen Decatur 52: John McLean scored 27 points to lead visiting Poly (16-6) in a Class 2A East first-round game. Poly will play host to City in a quarterfinal game Monday or Tuesday.

* Dundalk 80, C. Milton Wright 70: Sean Winston scored 19 points as Dundalk won in a Class 3A North game. Dundalk will play host to Franklin Monday or Tuesday in a quarterfinal game.

* Wicomico 61, South River 60: Despite 22 points from Guan Brown, host South River (3-19) lost in overtime in a Class 2A East region first-round game. Wicomico plays host to Forest Park Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

* North Harford 69, Milford Mill 53: Brock Jourdan scored 27 points and Ryan Renfrow added 23 to lead host North Harford (10-11) in a Class 2A North region first-round game. North Harford will play at Patapsco Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

* Harford Tech 77, Bohemia Manor 59: Pete Surette scored 22 as host Harford Tech (10-11) won a Class 1A North region first-round contest. Harford Tech travels to Elkton Monday at 7:30 p.m. for a quarterfinal game.

* Hammond 70, Fairmont Heights 55: Tom Selkeld scored 21 and Jerry Oliver had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Hammond (15-8) in a Class 2A South region game. Hammond travels to Lackey Monday or Tuesday for a quarterfinal game.
