A gathering of composers

CLASSICAL MUSIC

February 22, 1996|By Stephen Wigler

As part of its centennial celebrations this year, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland will be host of a composers' conference this weekend. The panelists will include such important figures as Joan Tower, Libby Larsen, Robert Hall Lewis and Anthony Stark, who is the director of the conference.

However intriguing it is when composers discuss matters, it is always less interesting (or should be) than hearing their music performed. The conference will include two free concerts of new music by several composers in addition to those listed above.

The concerts will take place in LeClerc Auditorium Friday evening at 7:30 and Saturday afternoon at 4. Admission is free. For further information, call (410) 532-5536.
