Salisbury State and Goucher win quarterfinal games

Amy Fenzel had game highs of 21 points, 11 rebounds and six steals to lead Salisbury State to a 64-43 victory over visiting St. Mary's in a Capital Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal game yesterday.

Maisha Ellis had 13 points for the Sea Gulls (17-7), who forced 39 turnovers. Elizabeth McCurdy scored 13 points to lead St. Mary's (9-15).

Salisbury State out-rebounded St. Mary's 50-42, grabbing 18 offensive rebounds.

* Goucher 56, Catholic 40: Chanon Watson and Didi Cotton each scored 11 points to help host Goucher (17-8) past Catholic (7-17) in a CAC quarterfinal game. Candi Jones added 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for the Gophers.

Both teams shot under 30 percent, but Goucher out-rebounded Catholic 57-43. Catholic missed 27 of its first 34 shots (21 percent) as the Gophers took a 29-16 halftime lead.

Becky Mitzer had 15 points to lead Catholic, and Mary Kay Nerbun contributed 11 points and 14 rebounds.
