A 21-year-old Columbia man has been charged with seven counts of first-degree burglary and related offenses in a series of thefts last fall in Carroll County.

Janero Patrick Burrell of the 8900 block of Tamar Drive also was charged with theft, malicious destruction and conspiracy. He is free on $25,000 bond.

According to court records, Tfc. Jason K. Merson of the state police was investigating an Oct. 10 burglary in New Windsor when he realized similar crimes had occurred in the area around that time.

Police had received theft reports from a home in the 3600 block of Hooper Road in New Windsor on Sept. 22 and 23, and from the 3000 block of Merle Court in New Windsor on Oct. 4.

Trooper Merson said in his report that he requested a warrant, then discovered five more burglaries before it was served earlier this month.

Theft reports came from the 300 block of Anna Lane in Sykesville on Oct. 20, the 4100 block of Roop Road in Mount Airy on Oct. 24 and another home in the 3000 block of Merle Court on Oct. 29.

Police also received reports from the 1800 block of Fawn Way in Finksburg and the 1400 block of Liberty Road in Eldersburg.

After some items were traced to pawn shops and an apartment in Sykesville, officers questioned a man who confessed to his involvement in the thefts, police said.
