Research refuge seeks volunteers

Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel is recruiting volunteers 16 and older to help staff the Visitor Contact Station.

A training session and orientation for visitor aides will be given from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The position involves greeting the public and explaining recreational and educational activities at the refuge. A schedule of two four-hour shifts a month is preferred.

Nature programs: Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract, will offer these programs: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, "Owl Prowl," a guided walk; and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, a search for signs of spring. Registration is required. Information: 674-3304.

After hours: The Greater Crofton Chamber of Commerce will conduct an After Hours Business Networking Mixer from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at Eddie's Place, Route 3 Center, Crofton. Eddie Swann, owner of Eddie's Place, Economy Glass and Economy Communications, is sponsoring the event. Copies of the chamber's 1996 Business and Community Guide will be available. Telecourse tapes: Provinces library will offer videotapes of the following credit telecourses at Anne Arundel Community College this spring: "Business and its Environment," "History of the United States 1 and 2," "Introduction to Psychology" and "Introduction to Sociology." Information: 541-2464.
