Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church to sponsor annual roast beef dinner Saturday

FOOD, FUN AND entertainment: Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church will sponsor its annual roast beef dinner from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The menu will include sliced roast of bottom round, potatoes, green beans, corn, spiced apples, beverages, bread, a salad bar and dessert.

After dinner, diners are invited to enjoy local entertainment.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger. Proceeds will benefit the church and Camp Harmison, a United Methodist Church camp near Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 789-3688. The church hall is at 110 Townsend Ave.

Improvement group to meet

Neighbors are invited to attend the Olde Brooklyn Park Improvement Association meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Brooklyn Park Elementary School.

The agenda includes discussion of upgrading the water system, the shopping center, traffic signals and police activity.

If Anne Arundel County schools are closed tomorrow because of inclement weather, the meeting will be canceled.

The school is at 200 14th Ave.

Flea market date set

Thinking about spring cleaning? Why not recycle your used items?

The Roland Terrace Democratic Club will sponsor an indoor flea market from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16.

Tables are available for $10. Call 519-0080 to reserve a space. The hall is at 619 Matthews Ave.

Griot to entertain

Storyteller Stanley "Bunjo" Butler will share his tales at 7 p.m. tonight at the Brooklyn Park Library, 1 E. 11th Ave.

Butler, known as the "West Baltimore African Talkin' Drum," has been telling stories professionally for nearly 12 years and enlivens his performance by using audience participation as he shares African and African-American stories, proverbs and songs.

The program is free and children 6 and older are invited to attend. Information: 222-6260.

Ash Wednesday celebrations

Local churches invite you to join them this week in the celebration of Ash Wednesday.

St. John Lutheran Church, 226 Washburn Ave., will have services at 11 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. including confession, Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes.

Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., will have a 7 p.m. service with communion and the imposition of ashes. The church also will begin its Lenten Soup Suppers at 5 p.m. Sunday, followed by the Lenten Journey program at 6 p.m.

Discussing 'Other Options'

The Arundel Gardens Improvement Association will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at Resurrection Lutheran Church on Hammonds Lane.

The speaker will be Harold Adams of "Other Options," who will explain his group home program.

Fund-raiser at Roy Rogers

North County High School Band Parents will sponsor a fund-raiser at Roy Rogers at the Cromwell Field Shopping Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow. All you have to do is come and have dinner. Roy Rogers will contribute 20 percent of the sales during that period to the band. Funds will go toward band activities.
