Revolutionary re-enactment

Revolutionary War forces will clash Sunday at Fort Ward as part of the George Washington Birthday Celebration in Alexandria, Va. Re-enactment units will set up an authentic 18th-century military encampment at the Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site, 4301 W. Braddock Road.

Participating units for the British crown are the 23rd Welsh Fusiliers, the 64th Regiment of Foote, the 42nd Highland Regiment, the 4th Battalion Royal Artillery, the 71st Highlanders and the 42nd Light Infantry. The First Virginia Regiment, the First Maryland, the Sixth Maryland, Wayne's Light Infantry, "Bland's Horse" unit and the First Continental Artillery are the Colonial forces.

The camp opens to the public at 10 a.m., and living history demonstrations of 1776 army life will be offered until 4 p.m. At 2 p.m., troops will stage a narrated skirmish to demonstrate the weapons and tactics developed during the American Revolution. change of command ceremony also is scheduled.
