Mount Airy man pleads guilty in attack on Taylorsville girl

February 14, 1996

A 32-year-old Mount Airy man pleaded guilty to charges of battery and attempted false imprisonment yesterday in the attack on a Taylorsville teen-ager in her home last July.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped burglary and assault charges against Barry Lee Loman of Kimberly Drive.

Police have said that Loman, who lives a few miles from the victim, works as a golf instructor in Washington.

"A person like [Loman] should be off the streets," said the victim's father yesterday, adding that his daughter never stays home alone anymore.

"People don't realize how traumatic this is for a family," he said. "It's something you don't forget, you can't forget."

Loman will be sentenced April 30 after a pre-sentence investigation, including psychological testing, is completed.
