Loyola gets last word against Siena in 64-62 victory State women

Dawn Gerdich made a layup with 27 seconds remaining to lift Loyola to a 64-62 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win yesterday over Siena at Reitz Arena.

Five players scored in double figures for Loyola, led by Denise Stuewe's career-high 15 points. Lynn Albert added 13 points for the Greyhounds, while Siena's Erin Boland led all scorers with 18.

Stuewe, who hit seven of 12 shots, scored 10 points in the second half as the Greyhounds (11-11, 5-5) overcame a late Siena run. Loyola led 60-52 with 4:04 left, when the Saints (6-15, 3-6) went on a 10-2 run to forge a tie at 62.

* Maine 80, Towson State 48: Cindy Blodgett scored 27 points to pace league-leading Maine (20-4, 14-0) past Towson State (5-14, 3-12) in a North Atlantic Conference game. The Tigers made 28 turnovers.

The Black Bears hit 17 of their first 30 shots to take a 47-23 halftime lead. Sonia Keiner had 12 points to lead the Tigers.
