Woman in fair condition after car skids on ice

A 31-year-old Millers woman was in fair condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday after a car accident in Manchester early Friday.

Police said Michele Lynn Yelton of the 3900 block of Schalk Road Number 1 was driving north on Watertank Road in Manchester about 1 a.m. when her car skidded on an ice patch near Millers Station Road.

According to police reports. Ms. Yelton lost control of the 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix and slid to the right, striking some landscape timbers and a tree in the 3500 block of Water Tank Road.

Ms. Yelton was taken by helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Sykesville man treated after being run off road

A 37-year-old Sykesville man was taken to Carroll County General Hospital Thursday after being run off the road near Woodbine around 7:30 p.m.

Police said August Edward Dankert of the 6200 block of W. Hemlock Drive was driving west on Liberty Road when he passed a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro near Woodbine Road.

According to police reports, the Camaro -- driven by 18-year-old Charles Wesley Frederick II of Woodbine -- sped up and attempted to pass Mr. Dankert's 1995 Subaru on the shoulder. Police said Mr. Frederick lost control of his car and hit Mr. Dankert's car, which went down an embankment on the right side of the road.

Mr. Dankert was treated and released at Carroll County General Hospital. Mr. Frederick and his sister, 21-year-old Mary Lou Frederick, who lives with him on John Pickett Road, were not injured.

Mr. Frederick was cited for improper passing and driving too fast for the rainy conditions, according to police reports.
