County police charged a Severn man yesterday with the rape of a 28-year-old Annapolis woman.

The woman told police she had met a male acquaintance Monday night at Eastport Terrace housing project, and he asked her to go with him to buy beer. She bought the beer, thinking they would return to Eastport Terrace, but the man drove to Meade Village, police said.

When she wanted to go home, the man took her to the 1200 block of Severn Station Road and raped her, then drove her to Severna Park and pushed her out of the car, police said.

She found someone to call police shortly before 1 a.m. Officers arrested the suspect at his home shortly after 2:30 a.m., police said.

Joseph G. White, 24, of the 8200 block of Marlton Court was charged with rape, assault and battery, police said.
