A man suspected of breaking into a house and who fled in a stolen truck was caught Monday when he crashed the vehicle nearby, Howard County police said.

Relsey Lee Slagle, 36, of Lisbon, was being held on $10,000 bond at the Howard County Detention Center yesterday. He was charged with auto theft, breaking and entering, and traffic violations, police said.

About 11:40 a.m. Monday, a resident in the 10100 block of Frederick Road in Ellicott City reported seeing a man break a window at a neighbor's home and try to enter, police said.

Before officers arrived, the man drove off in a black pickup, which was reported stolen from Timberleigh Way in Lisbon earlier that day, police said.

Officers responding to the call saw a man heading east on Frederick Road and chased him until he crashed into a snowbank and ran away. The suspect was chased on foot, caught and arrested a short distance away, police said.
