Pikesville fire sends families into cold

February 07, 1996|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Several families were forced outside into sub-freezing temperatures last night when fire raced through several units of a Pikesville apartment complex.

The fire broke out about 8:30 p.m. at 13 Tentmill Lane at the St. Charles at Old Court Apartments and went to three alarms by 9 p.m., the Baltimore County Fire Department said. Firefighters were hampered at first by frozen hydrants that had to be forced open but brought the fire under control about 10 p.m.

More than 30 residents from at least a dozen units damaged by the fire sought shelter with neighbors and relatives. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
