Black heritage group plans archive discussion

The Fort Meade Black Heritage Program Committee will sponsor a presentation by Dr. James Eaton Sr., a history professor at Florida A&M University, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Officers' Club on Mapes Road. Dr. Eaton is founder of Black Archives Research Center and Museum in Tallahassee, Fla.

The program will feature an audiovisual presentation and display of items from the archives.

Patuxent Research Refuge offers February programs

Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract, will offer these programs in February:

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 17, "Beavers: Makers of the Marsh" will include a visit to the animals' habitat.

From 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 10, "Bird Walk." a guided walk for ages 16 and older.

From 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 11, "Birding for Beginners," on how to to identify birds, what equipment and books are helpful; the group will take a guided walk.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 10 and 24, "Owl Prowl," a guided walk.

From 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 24, , "Harbinger of Spring Walk," a search for signs of spring.

Programs are held at the North Tract Visitor Contact Station, Bald Eagle Drive, Laurel. Advance registration is required. Information: 674-3304.
