County police arrested a Landover man and a Jessup woman on drug charges Monday after an officer found two marijuana cigarettes in the car they occupied, police said.

Stephen Elliott, 37, of the 6700 block of West Forest Road in Landover and Sheena Compher, 31, of the 2000 block of Citrus Ave. in Jessup were charged with possession of marijuana. Mr. Elliott also was charged with theft and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police said the tags on the white Pontiac Grand Prix that Mr. Elliott was driving had been reported stolen in Prince George's County.

Officer Steve Torbeck pulled the car over at Annapolis and Disney roads in Severn about 10 a.m. after police broadcast a complaint that the driver and passenger were drinking beer and smoking drugs in the car.

The officer reported that he searched the car and found the woman holding a bottle of beer. He ordered her to empty it, then checked the tags, which he learned were stolen, police said.

After Officer Torbeck arrested the man and searched the car a second time, he found a hand-rolled cigarette with what later tested positive for marijuana between the two front seats and another in the beer bottle that had been emptied earlier, police said.

Mr. Elliott and Ms. Compher were released on their own recognizance Monday, police said.
