Two men arrested in credit card case

An officer checked a truck in a Crofton shopping center lot Saturday night, found several stolen credit cards and arrested the men in the vehicle, police said.

The officer had become suspicious when he drove by a Ryder rental truck parked in front of Kmart at Route 3 and Davidsonville Road shortly after 9 p.m. and spotted a passenger diving for the floor, police said. They gave this account of the arrests:

The officer parked his car and saw a man leave the Kmart and get into the truck. The man denied that anyone was in the truck, but he consented to a search of it. Inside, the officer found the other man and several stolen credit cards.

Steven Wayne Linkus, 24, of the 6800 block of Riverdale Road was charged with fraud, forgery, theft, operating a theft scheme and stealing or receiving stolen credit cards. He was released on his own recognizance.

Jeffrey A. Basta, 28, of the 3000 block of New Oak Lane in Bowie was charged with stealing or receiving a stolen credit card and released on his own recognizance.
