The lineup on cable's Comedy Central today includes Tom Cruise, Geena Davis, Shelley Long and O. J. Simpson, plus one of the most caustic animated half-hours on television. This may not constitute the finest day of TV programming ever, but it sure sounds interesting, doesn't it?

* "Roseanne" (6 p.m.-6:30 p.m., WTTG, Channel 5) -- Remember all the brouhaha about the dreaded lesbian kiss on "Roseanne"? Remember how it all turned out to be much ado about nothing? (I've seen more passionate kisses between fish.) Well, if you missed it the first time and want to see what all the fuss was about, here's your chance, as the former Ms. Barr and Mariel Hemingway lock lips momentarily.

* "The Metropolitan Opera Presents" (8 p.m.-10:30 p.m., MPT, Channels 22 and 67) -- Placido Domingo has the title role in Verdi's Otello, a pleasant little tale of jealousy, chicanery and other virtues in 16th-century Cyprus. Sung in Italian with English subtitles, the performance was taped in October at New York's Metropolitan Opera. PBS.

* "Party of Five" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- Carroll O'Connor debuts in his recurring role as a grandfatherly figure who takes a liking to the kids. O'Connor always adds a spark to whatever he's involved with, so maybe it's time to give this series a try. Fox.

* "The Naked Truth" (9:30 p.m.-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Rob Lowe is tonight's cameo guest, as Nora (Tea Leoni) agrees to wear a bubble suit (always good for laughs) to help find a cure for a rare disease. Sometimes, this show is actually funny. ABC.

* "American Gothic" (10 p.m.-11 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Be thankful, be very thankful, that you don't live in this town. Veronica Cartwright guest stars as a dying woman claiming to be Sheriff Buck's mom. CBS.

Cable

* "Saturday Night Live" (9:30 a.m.-10 a.m., Comedy Central) -- O. J. Simpson as the host of "SNL"? Here's another chance to see him without having to hand over $29.95. File this repeat under "Things you'll never see again."

* "Saturday Night Live" (noon-1 p.m., Comedy Central) -- Host Geena Davis is guaranteed to be more entertaining than O. J. Unfortunately, you'll have to suffer through a song or two from John Cougar Mellencamp to make it through the hour.

* "Losin' It" (3 p.m.-5 p.m., repeats 8 p.m.-10 p.m., Comedy Central) -- Wanna see a young Tom Cruise looking for thrills in Tijuana? Wanna see Shelley Long as an unhappy housewife along for the ride? Wanna figure out a better way to spend two hours of your hard-earned free time?

* "The Critic" (10:30 p.m.-11 p.m., Comedy Central) -- If you love movies and have a sense of humor, you'll get a real kick out of this animated series, as "SNL" alum Jon Lovitz provides the voice of Jay Sherman, certainly the most obnoxious movie critic in the land. Then again, look at some of the movies he has to watch, like the one where Arnold Schwarzenegger played an Hasidic Jew.
